We began home schooling over twenty years ago. We have seven children. We are both products of the public school system and determined before our oldest was five that we wanted to be the primary shapers of our children?s worldview. We certainly agree that we didn?t do the home schooling thing perfectly in the early years. We did learn, however, that we needed a support team of other home schooling families to share ideas and give and receive support.
Each child is unique and we have learned to tailor curriculum based on individual learning styles. When overwhelmed with the responsibility of educating our children at home, we were encouraged to remember, ?An average parent can do as good or even better at educating a child through a one-to-one relationship than an excellent public school teacher can do with a class of 20-25 students.? We knew early on that no one cared more for our children?s success in life than we did so home schooling gave us more time to invest in them and in their future success.
We remain actively involved in a variety of home schooling activities to include sports. Bruce has coached basketball and Lee has helped lead the girls? volleyball program. We have seen our children excel in music, dance, writing as well as various sports. We have seen four of our seven complete high school. With three to go (ages 16, 13 and 10) we will continue to be ?in the trenches? for years to come.
We have helped other parents who have expressed interest in home schooling to get started and are certainly willing to continue helping parents who have questions or need a little encouragement like we did. Bruce’s email is [email protected] and Lee’s email is [email protected]. If we can help in any way, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
